Keep your air clean and dry.

  • Invest in HEPA air filters to trap the most particles and allergens.
  • Replace or clean your filters, including those on your HVAC system, air purifier and vacuum cleaner.
  • Stop mold growth by using dehumidifiers, limiting the number of houseplants, fixing any leaks and avoiding too many steamy showers.

Avoid dust build up and spread.

  • Dust using a microfiber or electrostatic cloth to prevent dust from getting pushed around rather than cleaned up.
  • Avoid using fans as they can spread dust and allergens.
  • Vacuum regularly.
  • Launder area rugs and floor mats.
  • Wash your sheets at least once a week and consider investing in hypoallergenic bedding.

Remove built up allergens with some deep cleaning.

  • Shampoo carpets.
  • Vacuum and shampoo upholstery and soft furniture.
  • Clean and flip your mattress.
  • Launder stuffed animals and blankets.
  • Strip pillows and comforters.
  • Wash window screens.

Keep the outdoors outside and avoid bringing pollen into the home.

  • Keep windows closed.
  • Add doormats for outdoor shoes to trap pollen.
  • Change out of outdoor clothes when you get home and keep your hamper out of your bedroom.
  • If possible, don’t dry clothes outside.
  • Bathe your pets frequently so their fur doesn’t carry around as many allergens.

Keeping your home clean and preventing allergens from entering can have a huge impact on your allergy symptoms. It can help you breathe better, sleep more soundly and enjoy your home life.
