This information was summarized from a fantastic article by a company called MindValley (How to Create A Powerful Gratitude Journal (and Stick With It). It's worth a read if you are interested.
1) Create a ritual – consistency is key for any new habit and creates a call to action for your mind and body. Maybe while drinking that first cup of coffee or at the end of the day or while eating lunch – pause and reflect on things to be grateful for.
2) Express your gratitude – this is very personal and totally up to you. Some people make a list, some people draw images and some people write. There is no wrong way to do this, so don't worry about being perfect.
Especially on a tough day, take out your journal and think of at least one thing that happened which you can be grateful for, pause and reflect; then write about that one, good thing, and why you feel gratitude for it. A few ideas to spark your thoughts:
3) Quality over quantity – While making a list of things to be grateful for is productive, our minds respond best when we are truly grateful for something that moves us deeply.
4) Bookend your day – Try gratitude journaling before you go to bed. Regularly ending your day on a high note empowers your mind to subconsciously process the feeling of gratitude while you sleep! You can also try re-reading that journal entry in the morning as a ‘bookend’ bonus!
We look forward to partnering with you and mixing your values with our expertise to create something special!
