Losing a spouse is one of life’s hardest experiences. We’re here to help with the financial decisions—so you don’t have to face them alone.

Personalized Grief Support

Our team has experience working with individuals who are grieving, and we understand the unique financial challenges that can arise. We’re committed to walking alongside you with thoughtful guidance tailored to your needs.

Community Work

One of our advisors, Grant Meyer, brings not only professional expertise but also a heart for service. Through his volunteer work with Wings for Widows—a local nonprofit offering pro-bono financial coaching—Grant was honored as Volunteer Coach of the Year in 2022. He also speaks at grief support groups and participates in community events for widows and widowers.

Planning Through Transition

Losing a spouse changes everything—financially, emotionally, and logistically. At TruMix Advisors, we help widows and widowers navigate this transition with clarity, compassion, and a plan that supports both immediate needs and long-term goals.

We use modern planning tools and a collaborative approach to guide you through:

  • Rebuilding Financial Structure – Organizing accounts, updating beneficiaries, and creating a new budget
  • Managing Inheritance & Proceeds – Making thoughtful decisions about life insurance, retirement accounts, or property transfers
  • Tax Planning After Loss – Navigating filing status changes, estate taxes, and income shifts
  • Investment Realignment – Adjusting portfolios to reflect new goals, risk tolerance, and cash flow needs
  • Social Security & Pension Decisions – Evaluating Social Security claiming decisions, including survivor benefits for spouses and minor children and timing strategies
  • Insurance Review – Reassessing coverage needs without sales pressure or conflict of interest
  • Estate Updates – Reviewing wills, trusts, and powers of attorney to reflect your new reality
  • Support for Adult Children – Coordinating education funding, gifting strategies, or shared responsibilities

Got Questions?

Widows & Widowers — FAQ

Common questions about how TruMix supports those who have lost a spouse — and what it looks like to work with an advisor who understands that finances are only part of the picture.

I’m not ready to make big financial decisions. Do I have to?
No — and we’d never push you to. One of the most important things we can do early on is help you identify what actually needs attention now and what can wait. Most decisions don’t need to be made immediately, and part of our role is giving you the space to grieve while making sure nothing falls through the cracks in the meantime. We move at your pace. Reach out when you’re ready.
I’ve never handled the finances on my own before. Where do I even start?
You start right here. Many people we work with are navigating their finances independently for the first time. We begin by helping you get a clear, organized picture of where things stand — your accounts, your income, your expenses, and anything that may need to be updated or transferred. From there, we build a plan together, one step at a time. Learn more about our planning process.
What financial things actually need to happen after losing a spouse — and when?
There’s more to sort through than most people expect — accounts to update, beneficiaries to review, insurance decisions to make, tax filing changes, and potentially Social Security or pension decisions that have real timing implications. It can feel overwhelming all at once. We help you understand what needs to happen, in what order, and handle as much of the complexity as we can on your behalf so you’re not left figuring it out alone. Schedule a Discovery Meeting to get started.
How do I know I can trust the advice I’m getting?
It’s one of the most important questions you can ask. At TruMix, all of our advisors are fiduciaries — meaning we are required to act in your best interest, not ours. We don’t sell insurance or earn commissions, so there’s nothing driving our recommendations except what’s genuinely right for you. We also have direct experience working with the widowed community, including pro-bono work with the nonprofit Wings for Widows, where one of our advisors, Grant Meyer, was named Volunteer Coach of the Year in 2022.

What We Do

All of our advisors are CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professionals who act as fiduciaries—meaning they’ve met rigorous education, experience, and ethical standards, and are committed to putting your best interests first. It may be surprising, but not all "financial advisors" meet this standard. We don’t sell insurance or earn commissions.
